Dawson performed a full renovation of Western Washington University's Miller Hall in Bellingham, an academic facility first built in 1943 and expanded with a major addition in 1967. Scope included hazardous materials abatement, selective demolition, excavation for new vertical circulation, interior construction, architectural finishes, ADA-compliant restrooms, and full replacement of mechanical and electrical systems. A transparent gallery was inserted into the inner courtyard, giving students a flexible gathering space beneath a green roof, and the floor plan was completely reconfigured to improve wayfinding and bring the historic academic building into alignment with contemporary teaching needs.

Miller Hall was returned to service as a fully modernized academic building achieving LEED Gold certification with a 40% reduction in energy consumption. The renovated facility meets current accessibility standards, provides modern learning environments, and extends the building's useful life by decades, preserving a core piece of the WWU campus for future generations of students.
