After a 2008 fire nearly destroyed this community landmark, Dawson was hired to reconstruct and preserve the historic character of The Inn at Lynden in accordance with the standards of the National Registry of Historic Places. Working alongside the State Historic Preservation Office, the team replicated the original 1914 character and detailing while modernizing the building for present-day use. The work included new wood framing, seismic retrofits, and updated electrical systems.
The completed inn is anchored by a 35-room, 20,000 square foot boutique hotel on the mezzanine and second floor, with 10,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space on the lower levels. The Inn at Lynden once again serves as the center of commerce and community in downtown Lynden, bringing new economic vitality while honoring over a century of the building's history.
The project earned an AIA Northwest Washington Honor Award, recognizing the exceptional design quality achieved through Dawson's partnership with RMC Architects. It is proof of what is possible when preservation meets skilled construction, and when the builder cares as much about the history as the client does.
From emergency repairs to ground-up builds, Dawson teams deliver across Southeast Alaska and Northwest Washington.
