Dawson Construction completed new construction of a one-story, 21,700 square foot, steel-framed sand and chemical storage building and fueling station with canopy in the northwest quadrant of the Juneau International Airport. The facility is a critical component of airport winter operations, housing the sand, deicing chemicals, and fuel needed to keep runways and taxiways safe and operational during Southeast Alaska's challenging winter weather conditions.
The project required careful coordination with ongoing airport operations so that construction activities did not interfere with runway access, taxiway traffic, or the daily flow of commercial and bush aviation that keeps Juneau connected to the rest of the state.
Juneau International Airport now has a modern, purpose-built operations center for winter maintenance. Sand, deicing chemicals, and fuel are housed in a single location, streamlining the response when winter weather hits the runways. The steel-framed building handles Juneau's snow loads and wind without issue, and the integrated fueling station eliminated the need for separate trips to fuel maintenance vehicles. Dawson delivered it without a single disruption to airport operations, keeping Juneau's critical air link to the rest of Alaska and the Lower 48 open throughout construction.
From emergency repairs to ground-up builds, Dawson teams deliver across Southeast Alaska and Northwest Washington.
