Dawson Construction delivered the Haines Brewery, a 3,750 square foot wood-framed building in the small community of Haines, Alaska, a town of approximately 2,500 residents situated along the scenic Lynn Canal in Southeast Alaska. The brewery has become a popular destination for both locals and visitors arriving via the Alaska Marine Highway ferry system or the Haines Highway.

The facility features a tasting room where visitors can sample locally crafted beers, an outdoor beer garden that takes advantage of Haines' spectacular mountain and waterfront views, and second-floor office and residential space. Designed by Jensen Yorba Lott Inc., the building reflects the character of downtown Haines while providing a modern craft brewing facility. Dawson assisted with overall budgeting and management, a role that included managing the design process, coordinating subcontractors, and self-performing framing, roofing, siding, and interior finishes. In a town of 2,500 people, the contractor often has to wear every hat, and Dawson's team did.

The Haines Brewery has become one of the town's anchor destinations, a gathering place for locals and a draw for visitors arriving on the Alaska Marine Highway. The tasting room and beer garden bring people together, the residential units above add housing in a town that needs it, and the building itself fits naturally into the streetscape. It is a project that does exactly what good Main Street development should: create a place that's worth visiting while adding value to the community.
