This project consisted of a major addition and renovation at Central Peninsula Hospital, representing Dawson's third project at the facility. The work included construction of 27,000 square feet of additional building area, replacement of 8,000 square feet of existing space, and renovations to 19,000 square feet of operational areas. The I-2 Healthcare occupancy structure was built as a Type II-A building featuring a concrete foundation system, steel structural frame, and composite floor systems.
The phased approach was essential to maintain hospital operations throughout construction. The project addressed the facility's growing need for expanded obstetric and catheterization laboratory services while managing the complexities of working in an active medical environment with constrained site conditions and limited staging areas. The team coordinated carefully to ensure continuous operations during the multi-phase construction process.
Central Peninsula Hospital now has a modern OB unit and catheterization laboratory that eliminated the need for many patient transfers to Anchorage-area facilities. The 27,000-square-foot addition tied directly into the existing hospital, and the renovated spaces brought 19,000 square feet of older clinical areas up to current standards. Dawson delivered the project without a single unplanned disruption to patient care, reinforcing a track record at CPH that has brought the team back three times.
From emergency repairs to ground-up builds, Dawson teams deliver across Southeast Alaska and Northwest Washington.
