Dawson restored and seismically retrofitted Alaska's State Capitol building in downtown Juneau, one of the most historically significant structures in the state. The phased renovation included removal and replacement of the entire exterior building envelope, including masonry, precast concrete panels, windows, and waterproofing, along with renewal of historic interior finishes and design elements. All work was carefully sequenced to allow legislative operations to continue throughout construction.

The Alaska State Capitol emerged with a seismically reinforced structure, a fully restored exterior, and LEED Silver certification, a building that meets modern safety and efficiency standards while preserving the historic character that makes it Alaska's most important civic landmark. Dawson delivered the renovation without interrupting a single legislative session, demonstrating that even the most politically sensitive, historically significant buildings can be completely transformed while the work of government continues inside.
