Dawson self-performs 60% of the work on a typical project. Our own crews swing the hammers, set the forms, hang the doors, and finish the casework. That is not a marketing number. It is the operational decision that makes everything else on the rest of this site possible. When we own the labor, we own the schedule. When we own the schedule, we can promise it. When we promise it, we can deliver it.

Dawson self-performs the trades that decide whether a building feels right. Cast-in-place and tilt-up concrete. Light-gauge and heavy timber framing. Finish carpentry and millwork. Doors, frames and hardware. Mechanical rough-in on projects where it makes sense. The trades we self-perform are the ones where craftsmanship is the deliverable, not just compliance.
Self-perform is not just a delivery method. It is a hiring strategy. It is how a 1967 family-owned construction company became an employee-owned 200-person team. When the next generation of carpenters and concrete finishers comes to work, they come to work for Dawson. They watch our journey people. They learn our quality standard. They become the version of Dawson that will be here in 2050.

Our state-accredited apprenticeship is the through-line from the trades we self-perform to the company we will be in twenty years. Thirty-nine active apprentices today. Forty-one percent identify as minority. Every one of them paid to learn the trade on a Dawson job site under a Dawson journey person. The apprenticeship is the reason we can still promise quality fifty-eight years after Pete and Jack Dawson founded the company.
Each pillar reinforces the others. Safety lets us self-perform. Self-perform lets us finish early. Finish-early earns predictability. Return to the overview to see how they connect.
