Toolbox talk on a Dawson job site, crews planning the day
Recognize. Respond. Respect

The Construction Safety Week framework. Year round at Dawson

Every Dawson project starts with pre-task planning. Every crew runs daily toolbox talks. Every team trains on the high-energy hazards that can take a life: falls, struck-by, caught-in-between, energized systems, heavy equipment. The industry calls them STCKY, Stuff That Can Kill You. We respect them by training for them every day, not one week a year.

Suspended worker rescue drill

On the Friday of Construction Safety Week 2026, our Bellingham crew gathered at the campus yard. Full team out. Harness rigged on the JLG. Real practice for a worst-case fall. Suspension trauma straps deployed. Our safety team led the rescue protocol. The drill is not the point. The reflex is the point.

By the numbers

Safety is a system, not a slogan

Dawson's five-year EMR trend is 0.66. Our TRIR stays below 1.65. Both well under the construction industry average. In 2025 our EMR was 0.76 with zero lost-time incidents, the fifth consecutive year of zero LTI. Zero regulatory complaints in the last five years across OSHA, Washington L&I, WSHA, WDFW, WDOE and every county inspector who has walked our sites. On the BP Cherry Point Refinery we logged 230,000+ hours without a single OSHA recordable. Refinery Project Manager Dan Abbey put it plainly: we did not even record a first aid incident. Numbers like that come from a culture, not a checklist.

Built to last. Signed by name

917 projects since 1967. Sixty percent of the work self-performed by our own crews. Three generations of owners who put their names on what we build.
