This project involved a full renovation of approximately 3,300 square feet of St. Joseph Medical Center's existing MRI suite in Bellingham. The work was completed entirely within the operational hospital, requiring constant negative air pressure and strict compliance with daily infection control standards. The team coordinated closely with the hospital's outside vendor to manage replacement of the existing MRI unit while maintaining the facility's operational status.
A major challenge emerged with the tight timeline for replacing the 16,000-pound MRI machine. Within just four days, the team had to cut through an exterior steel wall, remove the existing unit, install the new machine, and rebuild the wall, a feat requiring work before and after regular hours and creative problem-solving to overcome structural and logistical obstacles. The new unit was operational within the four-day window with zero disruption to adjacent hospital departments, a high-stakes medical equipment replacement delivered without disrupting the hospital around it.
