Dawson worked as a joint venture with Layton Construction on the PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center, a phased project that included renovations to existing healthcare facilities and an 80,000 square foot four-story addition. The project represented a major expansion of medical services available to the Ketchikan community and surrounding Southeast Alaska region. The hospital remained occupied throughout construction, requiring constant coordination with PeaceHealth operations.
The new addition was designed with careful attention to modern healthcare delivery. The first floor houses new mechanical and electrical rooms plus an MRI suite. The second floor provides dedicated patient parking with a full garage capacity. The third and fourth floors provide staff offices and patient rooms, along with four new operating rooms designed for advanced surgical procedures. Each floor was designed to enhance workflow efficiency and patient care delivery.
PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center is now the regional healthcare hub that Southeast Alaska needed. Four new operating rooms brought advanced surgical capabilities to a community that previously sent patients to larger cities for many procedures. The MRI suite, expanded patient rooms, and improved facilities mean better care delivered closer to home for Ketchikan residents and the surrounding region. The parking garage solved a chronic access problem, and the entire addition tied directly into the existing hospital, all delivered without disrupting the care that patients depended on throughout construction.
From emergency repairs to ground-up builds, Dawson teams deliver across Southeast Alaska and Northwest Washington.
