Dawson expanded the Kettleson Memorial Library by 4,800 square feet, giving Sitka a modern community hub while honoring the building's waterfront setting. The addition includes multipurpose gathering space, individual study rooms, a teen room, and a media room. Beyond the expansion, Dawson replaced the building's thermal envelope and entire roof and fully modernized the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
The architectural result is striking: a vaulted ceiling, glass partitions, and light-colored exposed beams maximize the sense of openness, while panoramic windows frame Sitka Sound so completely that the building seems to float on the water. The interior renovations modernized existing spaces with new flooring, acoustic ceilings, lighting, and finishes throughout, and the complete thermal envelope replacement transformed the building's energy performance and weathertightness. It is now one of Southeast Alaska's most inviting public spaces for reading, study, and community connection, a cohesive facility that serves the Sitka community for generations to come.
From emergency repairs to ground-up builds, Dawson teams deliver across Southeast Alaska and Northwest Washington.
