WWU Academic Instructional Center

Education Project

The Western Washington University Academic Instructional Center consists of two south campus concrete buildings connected by a sky bridge. The east wing houses five stories of departmental clinics, labs, and faculty offices for the Communications Sciences and Disorders (CSD) and Psychology Departments, while the west wing offers three stories of classrooms, computer labs, lecture halls, and open spaces.

Several sustainable building practices were employed during construction to achieve the building’s LEED certification.

These sustainable practices include solar shading; natural ventilation and heat recovery throughout the buildings; efficient energy and water systems; the use of excavated materials onsite; and recycling all construction waste.
