BHA Green Communities

Residential Project

The goal of the BHA Green Communities renovation project was to implement energy efficiency and green building retrofits to three of the largest multi-unit housing facilities in Bellingham.  The three buildings, Lincoln Square, Washington Square, and Chuckanut Square contain a total of 400 units, providing housing for disabled and elderly occupants. The project, which was funded through an ARRA Green Communities Grant, which provides funds for green initiatives such as geothermal heating, Photovoltaic solar energy generation and a Vegetative green roof resident courtyard.

Due to the complex nature of installing these energy saving elements, the mechanical and electrical scopes were completed as design-build contracts. The project resulted in a 35% reduction of over-all power consumption within these communities.
